How to Manage FIDO2 Passkeys on Google Chrome | Thetis
1. Install Chrome and Open Chrome [Important!]
  • Download it from the official Google Chrome website and install it.
  • MacOS users can open Chrome directly and proceed to the next section.
  • Windows users must open Chrome with "WebAuthenticationUseNativeWinApi" disabled by following the steps below:
    • Launch the command line tool by searching "cmd" in the start menu.
    • Enter "cd C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\" to navigate to the Chrome installation directory.
    • For 32-bit Chrome, run "cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\" instead.
    • Then run "chrome.exe --disable-features=WebAuthenticationUseNativeWinApi" to launch Chrome.
    • Chrome should open with the "Manage Passkeys" option enabled under "Privacy & Security -> Security" settings.
2. Access Chrome Settings
  • Open Chrome on your device.
  • Click on the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of the browser window.
  • Select "Settings" from the dropdown menu.
3. Navigate to Security Settings
  • In the Settings menu, scroll down and click on "Privacy and Security."
  • Then, select "Security" from the list.
4. Manage Passkeys and Security Keys
  • Scroll down to the "Advanced" section.
  • Under the "Security" section, find and click on "Manage Passkeys." This will open the passkey management page, where you can view, add, or remove passkey credentials.
  • Alternatively, you can manage your security keys by selecting "Manage security keys" or "Authenticator devices" (depending on your version of Chrome).
  • For Windows users who cannot find this option, close your Chrome browser, and reopen it with "WebAuthenticationUseNativeWinApi" disabled by following the instructions at the beginning of this guide.
5. Adding or Removing Credentials
  • Add a Credential: Follow the on-screen instructions to add a new FIDO2 passkey. You may need to insert your security key or authenticate using your device’s biometric features.
  • Remove a Credential: To remove a passkey, click on the credential you want to delete, and then confirm the deletion.
6. Use Passkeys with Chrome
  • When logging into a site that supports FIDO2 passkeys, Chrome will prompt you to use an existing passkey or create a new one. Follow the prompts to authenticate securely using your passkey.
