Your dashboard deserves the same care as the websites you manage. This independent Thetis tutorial explains hardware-key registration for a Cloudflare® account.
Before you begin
Verify your account email first. This workflow is for password-based user logins; accounts using single sign-on cannot configure this 2FA option. The official account-security overview explains these prerequisites.
Prepare your hardware key and use a WebAuthn-capable browser. Check the Thetis setup guide for device preparation. This documentation-based guide does not certify any particular Thetis model.
Register your hardware key
Keep the official hardware-key instructions available while you work.
- Connect your key and sign in to the dashboard. Open your profile's authentication settings.
- Start two-factor setup, or open its management controls if already enabled. Choose Add under Security Key Authentication.
- Enter your account password and proceed.
- Follow the physical-key prompt and activate your key. If Windows Hello appears instead, the official guide instructs you to cancel that prompt to reach the key dialog. Configure a key PIN if requested.
- Name the key. Complete any password confirmation and backup-code prompts, save the codes securely, and finish.
Test the registration
Keep your current session open and try a fresh login in another browser window. Enter your credentials, then connect and touch the registered key when prompted. Confirm that you reach your dashboard before closing the original session.
Prepare another way in
The provider recommends multiple keys. You can also configure another 2FA method, such as an authenticator app, and retain backup codes. The 2FA overview explains these options.
Register a spare separately and keep it apart from your everyday key. See the Thetis backup-key guide.
FAQ
Is this a passwordless passkey?
No. This workflow adds a verification step after your password. It does not describe creating a password-replacing passkey on your hardware.
What if I lose the key?
Use a saved backup code through the alternative-authentication option. Each code works once. Follow the official recovery instructions.
Is this an API key?
No. This tutorial concerns the physical device used at sign-in, not a credential pasted into scripts.
