This guide explains how to register and use your Thetis Security Key via NFC on mobile devices (iOS and Android) through the Gmail App.

Gmail is used as the example — other FIDO2-compatible services follow a similar process.

🔑 Key Notes Before You Begin

  • NFC login is not supported on Windows or Mac

  • The Thetis Key must be unfolded to a 90° angle before tapping

  • Thetis Key uses passive NFC, meaning it draws power from your phone — hold the key steady for a few seconds to ensure detection

  • iPhone: NFC reader is near the top-back (next to the camera)

  • Android: NFC reader is typically at the center-back of the phone

  • The phone will prepare to detect the key via NFC

    • iPhone: top-back

    • Android: center-back

  • Hold in place for 3–7 seconds until detected

5. Set or Confirm PIN

  • If this is the first time using the key, you will be prompted to set a PIN

6. You're Done!

  • The Thetis Key is now registered to your Google Account

  • You can use it to log in to Gmail, Drive, YouTube, and other Google services across supported devices

🛠️ Troubleshooting Tips

  • Make sure NFC is enabled (Android: Settings > Connected Devices > NFC)

  • Remove bulky phone cases or magnetic covers

  • Slightly reposition the key and hold longer if not detected

  • Restart your device if NFC fails repeatedly

  • Ensure you're selecting “Security Key” (not just phone-based passkey)
